HackLeumi & thethings.iO

Shalom hackers and makers of the HackLeumi hackathon 2014. We are sad to say that we will not be able to attend the HackLeumi at Tel Aviv in Israel for this reason we will be writing this post instead of our usual #iotfriday.

In this post, we will guide you through the tools and APIs of thethings.iO. We want to help everyone succeed at the hackathon and win the prizes being offered this year. At the Intel IoT Roadshow and StartupBootcamp

Within the next few days, our CEO and Internet of Things advocate, Marc Pous, will be in Munich, Germany to attend two very important events and will represent thethings.iO.

The first event is the Intel Internet of Things Roadshow, where Intel will be presenting their new Internet of Things platform, the Intel GalileoGeneration2 and the Intel Edison. Intel is investing a lot of effort into their new IoT platform. Marc will be at the Roadshow discussing his experience on the Internet of Things and then also as a judge for the IoT hackathon on Sunday. If you are in Munic, don’t miss out on such an important IoT event.

Monday, Marc will be mentoring the selected startups that make it out of Munich in Switzerland at the StartupBootcamp Munich Pitch Days. StartupBootcamp is opening a new Internet of Things accelerator in Barcelona where they will help 10 IoT startups get to the next step, where Marc will also be a mentor to young companies. thethings.iO Aelected at the Pioneers Startup Competition

We are very happy to announce that thethings.iO is one of 50 startups that have been selected for the Pioneers startup challenge in Vienna October the 28th. Pioneers festival

We will be pitching our company in fron of investors on October 29t at the  Investors Day at the Pioneers between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM. After that the thethings.iO will be presenting at the Show Room for startups between 4:40 PM and 5:40 PM. From that pitch competition, 10 startups will be selected to pitch at the Pioneers Festival.

Thethings.iO At The Internet of Things World Event at Palo Alto

Last June, thethings.IO founder and CEO, Marc Pous, got the opportunity to speak at the Internet of Things World Event at Palo Alto.

The session was titled “Designing for User Experience in the Internet of Things.” Marc answered questions related to how the consumer will manage multiple devices, platforms, and services in a home. There are two key issues for consumers: identity management and UI design. Other session speakers were Mike Kuniavsky, from the Palo Alto Research Center, Rob Lawrence, UI Director from Native, and Phil Fearnly, General Mananger of BBC Future Media.

The next day, Marc visited the former Xerox Parc, now called the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) by Mike Kuniavsky. Mik showed some intriguing projects that were being made at the PARC such as a printer that is able to print off mobile devices, from displays to microcontrollers, and also another print that is able to print batteries. At PARC, there is a tiny museum to see all the amazing projects that have been developed there.

Marc also presented thethings.iO at the IoT San Francisco meetup. Here, there were almost one hundred IoT enthusiastic people. It was only a forty minute talk but lasted longer than that with twenty minutes worth of questions.

therhings.iO at the API Strategy Conference in Amsterdam

A few weeks ago our CEO, Marc Paus, was invited to speak and showcase  thethings.iO at the API strategy conference in Amsterdam located at the Track of Hardware and Internet of things.

The panel session had other great speakers such as Rob Zazueta from Mashery, Marco Herbst from Evercam.io, Paul Hopton from relayr and Marc Pous from thethings.iO.

Marc presented thethings.iO as the GlueCode API of the Internet of things. Check out the video below to view the video for yourself.

thethings.iO at the Mobile World Congress 2014

This was our first time at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. During the MWC in Barcelona our CEO, Marc Pous, visited several events where he was able to show our Internet of things platform which is up and running, ready to connect developers devices.

The first event at which Marc showcased thethings.iO was the Internet of Things Barcelona community  party on Sunday the 23rd of February at Pangea Coworking space. This was the first year the Internet of Things Barcelona group has a MWC event. During the event Marc showcased how to connect things from different brands under the same user experience as Intel and HWTreck.

On Monday we visited the Mobile World Congress exposition and we saw a lot of interesting new things. Featured products included the new connected car presented by Tesla Motors at the Telefonica booth and a new watch presented by Samsung.

On Tuesday Marc presented at the 4YFN conference about the future of the Internet of Things and the role of startups in the field. It was a fun session and we had an in depth discussion about the projects of Smart Citizen and Relayr. We also had the chance to speak with Massimo Banzi, one of the founders of Arduino.

On Tuesday Marc presented at the 4YFN conference about the future of the Internet of Things and the role of startups in the field. On Wednesday, Marc was organizing one of the biggest events at the MWC called Wearable Wednesdays, which talked about wearables and the future of human computer interaction. Great speakers and panel discussions are planned with Sonny Vu (CEO at Misfit Wearables), Laurent Le Pen (CEO at Omate) or Christian Lindholm (CEO at Koru Labs) showing the quality of the event where a lot of new things will be showcased such as Bitcoin payment with Google Glass.

In general the Mobile World Congress was awesome for us as we gained the attention from new customers. The BETA is still underway to be launched for our registered members, so make sure to stay tuned and on the lookout .

thethings.iO at the X Seedrocket Campus in Madrid

Last week our founder, Marc Paus, was presenting thethings.iO at the X Campus of the SeedRocket. Thethings.iO was one of the nine startups selected among 220 companies that applied for the SeedRocket accelerator program.

Among all the accelerator programs that exist today in Spain, SeedRocket is one of the oldest and best in existence. Made by investors that have their own internet companies, they were the first ones to advise the new entrepreneurs that were attending the SeedRocket Campus.

Although we weren’t able to pass the selection process, it was worth it to attend the event and get a lot of good advise from successful Spanish businesses. However, we didn’t spend all of our time conducting business, we were able to visit Makespace Madrid and the MediaLab Prado.
